
Timeline
- In 1965, Qatar National Cement Co. was established as per the Emiri Decree No.07 in 1965 to produce Ordinary Portland Cement in sufficient quantity to meet the demand of cement in the State of Qatar.
- In 1969, commercial production from the first 100,000 tons line erected and commissioned by M/s. Franco Tosi of Italy based on Semi Dry Process with a capacity of 100,000 tpa started on 1st May 1969. Another production line of 100,000 tpa capacity was installed in 1974 by M/s Tarmac (UK) & by M/s. FLS (UK).
- In 1976, a third Kiln of 100,000 tpa capacity based on the same technology was erected by M/s Buhler Miag, Germany, making the combined clinker production capacity of the plant more than 300,000 tpa producing both the OPC and SRC Cement.
- In 1978, the company proceeded with Calcined Lime Plant of 100 tpd consisting of a Rotary Kiln with Planetary Cooler and other supporting facilities.
- In 1985, the Hydrated Lime Plant was added to the existing facility with a capacity of 240 tpd.
- In 1995, the foundation stone of the project was laid by H.E Abdalla Bin Hamad Alatia (Minster of Energy & Industry) on 12th Nov 1995, and inauguration of the plant was done by H.H Shiekh Hammad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani (Emir of the State of Qatar) on 10th Feb 1998.
- In 1998, a most modern and separate Cement Plant of 2000 tpd clinker production was commissioned at the site closer to the Plant 1. The new plant was supplied and erected by M/s.FCB (France) on a turnkey basis with M/s.Holderbank (Switzerland) as the consultant.
- In 2003, the capacity of the washed sand plant was doubled to 20,000 t.p.d. by rehabilitating the plant, which was purchased in January 2003 from the Ministry of Municipality and Agriculture Affairs.
- In 2004 April, a contract for constructing Plant 3 with a capacity of 4000 t.p.d. clinker was awarded to M/s FCB Ciment (France) on a turnkey basis with M/s Basse Sambre of Belgium as a consultant at the site next to Plant No. 2.
- In 2007, the construction of Plant No. 3 was completed in Jan 2007 after the foundation stone laying ceremony was completed by His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, The Heir Apparent on 20th December 2004.
- In 2008, the company established a new washed Sand Plant No. 2 in December 2008 with a designed capacity of 20,000 t.p.d. through a turnkey contract awarded to M/s CDE Ireland of Ireland.
- In 2009, in continuation to the company's support of the construction development in the country a contract for constructing Plant No. 4 with the capacity of 5000 TPD clinker was signed with M/s FCB Ciment (France) as contractor and M/s Basse Sambre (Belgium) as consultant engineers alongside Plant No. 2 & 3. The two mills of Plant No. 4 became operational in May & July 2008, and the full plant was commissioned in July 2009.With this, the total cement production capacity increased to 15,500 t.p.d. and clinker production capacity increased to 11,900 t.p.d.
- In 2018, due to increasing demand for cement in the local market, QNCC signed a contract to construct Plant No. 5 with a clinker production capacity of 5000 TPD with M/s Fives FCB (France) as the contractor and M/s TPF Contracting (Belgium) as the consultant, alongside Plant No. 2, Plant No. 3, and Plant No. 4. The two cement mills of Plant No. 5 became operational in April 2017, and the full plant was commissioned in June 2018. With this, the total cement production capacity was increased to 19,250 TPD, and clinker production capacity was increased to 16,000 TPD. QNCC discontinued its first plant in the same year, as it was old.
- As of February 2023, there are five cement plants in operation, and Plant 1 has been discontinued due to its age. QNCC has a total cement production capacity of 14,500 tpd and clinker production capacity of 11,000 tpd. The company also has two sand washing plants, one with a capacity of 20,000 tpd and another with a designed capacity of 20,000 tpd.
